DIY End Tables

What you'll need for 2 end tables:
[   ] Wood Finishes (Stain/Oil and Varathane)                                 [   ] Sander and/or Sandpaper
[   ] Brushes (paintbrush and sponge brush)                                  [   ] 2 Blocks/Stumps of Wood
[   ] Torch & Flint Lighter

Sand your wood blocks or stump until smooth with rounded corners. Light the torch and slowly burn all knots, cracks and edges. Keep the torch moving so you do not over burn certain areas (trust me, you can tell which areas have been over burnt). Use a pre-stain conditioner (I used Minwax) before staining to ensure an even stain (no streaks and blotches). While buying your stain or oil, ask your home improvement centre to show you samples of different stains on the type of wood you've chosen.

With your oil and cloth or your stain and paintbrush cover every square inch of the wood - even the bottom with 2-3 coats. Brush or sponge brush on your Varathane (2-3 coats again) for a finished look. Choose Varathane like you would your paint - flat, satin, gloss, etc. Add felt pads on the bottom side to prevent scratches to the floors and for easy moving. Remember, they are solid!

What we used:
Solid 18"x18"x18" fir blocks, Watco danish oil finish (dark walnut), Varathane (clear satin), BernzOmatic propane torch and Dewalt sander.
