With the beginning of each project I ask my clients to collaborate photos via. web, magazines, etc. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show which items spark the design process; honestly anything from details and materials to home styles and features. When this particular client contacted me I knew I had found one of those projects I had been dying to work on. The type of client that aligns perfectly with the path you're looking to take a long walk down. In this case, it meant a west coast contemporary design, not to mention an amazing client a professional could only ask for.
Wishlist 01
01. Although we bought this clock for our living room, I want one at the other end of our home. This wood clock would be perfect for the kitchen where the granite, tile and stainless live.
02. This weekend we talked about how our house is still not a home, even after 15 months. I think what's missing are the little things that decorate the walls and warm up your home.
03. Our colour scheme in our home is very natural and neutral. Mossy green, stone greige, and a lot of wood. To bring in some colour to our home we're bringing in YELLOW! Starting with accents.
04. Utensils of any kind are always needed because there are never enough. These beauties from Bloomingdale's are a little out of my price range but I found these instead.
05. This weekend I got started on designing my home office and the first thing on the list, other than a desk, is storage! Of course a visit to IKEA for some boxes, boards and shelving is a must.
06. This winter was fairly mild compared to a typical winter in the area (and other parts of the world, yesh!), but you can never have too many blankets (Especially with this starting April).
Under Construction: 17.1
This 40-lot subdivision is not like any subdivisions in the area. As you can tell with the home, it is a mobile home subdivision - with an exception. You not only purchase the trailer, but the property it sits on as well. This 2-bedroom, 1-bath, single-wide mobile home was in a great location and at a great price. Previously owned by a concrete enthusiast this trailer had 8 columns, entry stairs, and solid 8" perimeter foundation footings all built of concrete. Other than renovating the thin walls (2x4), minimal square footage, poor insulation and the obvious aesthetics, the home needed to maintain a percentage of the existing trailer to be approved by the local municipality. Time to plan.

Quick Tip: Spring!
Spring is here and although you want to plant,
you might want to check your soil. Stick a shovel into the
ground six inches or so, pull it out and check to see
if muddy soil sticks to it. If it does, it's not time yet. Wait
until the shovel comes out clean before you start the plant.

Process
I get asked a lot why I don't share more work on the blog regularly, but the truth is… most of my work is a time consuming process. There are many stages to designing a home - custom, renovation or stock plan. Typically, clients work with me on their floor plans, exterior elevations, materials, and sometimes even more, like construction details. Then come the foundation, roof, site and topography, sections, 3D, etc. Once the plans are complete you are waiting weeks for engineered plans, a building permit and organizing contractors / trades, budgeting and site prep. It all depends on the size or scope of the project, but you're looking at a good 18 months from start to finish, minimum. With that said - final photos come by over time, which of course I share. BUT, what happens to those designs that don't get chosen? Not chosen because they were terrible, but because, out of the 3 options I give, the other 2 weren't the design the client-at-the-time was looking for. All rejects lead to bigger and better things - It's simply a part of the process. Now is the time to get these beautiful rejections, and sometimes my personal favourites, to the drafting table. These plans will be seen here first and available for purchase fall 2014.
We're on Houzz
To begin a project I always ask my clients to put together a collage of interior and exterior home photos, either magazine clippings or photos found online. This allows me to understand my clients taste while sparking inspiration for all of us. With Houzz.com you can create your own ideabooks and we will link them directly to ours. When you add images to your ideabooks, we will receive them instantly. Browse our growing ideabooks of multiple spaces, find vendor information and even chat directly with us about our completed projects. Another great feature - reviews, and we are looking for them! It's very simple.
01. Rate the service out of 5 stars. 02. Describe the services provided and specific details of your experience in at least 20 words. 03. Check your relationship to the professional (hired, worked with, etc.) 04. Date and estimated project cost. 05. Street address and email address (will not be displayed). 06. And, attached photos of the work (if you like). Thank you clients, friends, family and visitors for your new and continuous support.
Connect with us, and thousands of others, on Houzz. But be warned, it can be a bit addictive!
Life Lately 14.2
February was a busy but enjoyable month for both myself and my husband. Many at home projects just rolled from one to the other with Mr. Pd on his spare time while I spent a lot of my spare time away from home with fundraisers, luncheons, meetings, site visits and exhibits.
1. / 4. Our two cabinets doors are built and installed, flanking our cultured stone fireplace; details coming soon. Meanwhile, we're in the process of designing our kitchen island with inspiration from one of my favourite stores - with a few tweaks (and a hint of a big surprise to come on instagram).
2. / 5. A relaxing morning coffee at Cafe Garibaldi after printing and binding plans; Ready for delivery. And an extremely early morning coffee after the exciting Sochi Olympic mens hockey game. Congrats Canada! Great game, excluding the 4:30 in the morning start…
3. Being the Vice Commodore at the SYC, I had the honour of being invited to the RVYC's annual Commodore's Luncheon. Delicious eats and beyond inspiring discussions were had by all.
6. Last weekend I spent at the Vancouver Home and Garden Show and nearly splurged at a few amazing exhibits. I loved this one from Indigenous Influences, which I will be splurging on a large piece in the near future.
